Canadian Women’s Club of Chicago Newsletter
Before we look ahead to the December luncheon,
I must comment on the great luncheon this past week. We had an opportunity to
taste five wines (including a “Mission Hills” from the Okanagan in BC) with
information from an expert, Tom Coughlin of Vintage Fine Wines. Café Pyrenees
provided a lovely meal in a beautiful private room. Thanks to our
Programme/Hospitality Committee for another success.
That committee has also been working hard to
prepare for our Christmas luncheon, coordinating with our hostess Patti Willian,
who once again is providing her lovely home for this event. Don’t forget to RSVP
to Mirella by the deadline, so they’ll know how many guests to prepare for. And
don’t forget to bring your “White Elephant” gift for the entertaining gift
exchange. Since each of us can bring anything they have and don’t use, you
never know if you’ll get a treasure or something crazy, useless, or just plain
ugly. I enjoy watching some of our lovely ladies getting quite “nasty” to steal
(or get rid of) certain items! It’s all in good fun, of course.
I hope over the holiday season you’ll be able to
make the trek to the Museum of Science and Industry to check out the beautiful
Canadian Tree at their annual “Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light”
festival. Several members and their spouses worked hard to make sure it looks
gorgeous. The trees will be up until Sunday, January 4th, 2009. Our
club also decorates smaller trees at the office of Maria Pappas, Cook County
Treasurer, and at Navy Pier.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, I’ve been
pondering all the things I have to be thankful for. This year my family and I
became American citizens, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to live in
this country as a citizen, yet still retain my bonds to Canada. I’m grateful to
this Club for providing me with an opportunity to celebrate and share my
“Canadian-ness” with so many wonderful friends. And I’m very grateful to the
fabulous members of the Board, who have been so incredibly supportive of me so
far this year. It is no exaggeration to say I could never do it without them.
With all the stress and worry in the world today,
I hope all of you will take time to think about all you have to be
thankful for, too.
Happy holidays to each and every one of you! Newsletter Deadline
