PRESIDENTS LETTER

Dear Members,

Believe it or not, this is our last newsletter for this year!!

It has been such a pleasure working with all the members of the board. This successful club year has truly been a cooperative, collaborative effort. I cannot begin to express my appreciation to all of them for doing such wonderful jobs individually and working together to keep everything running smoothly. Beth and Paula B. have planned wonderful meetings with fun and interesting programmes. Paula V.S. and MaryEllen organized our Ravinia evening last summer, a theatre outing and a fabulous St. Patrick’s Party. Anne has published our little newsletter every month. Susanna, our “minister without portfolio”, arranged a superb visit to the “Popsicle” exhibit in Millennium Park. Bev has managed our Canadian pin project, keeping us stocked with a constantly differing array of original Canadian made pins. Jan has taken care of all our philanthropic efforts. Barb has been photographing us and keeping all the albums up to date as well as sending sunshine cards. Joan keeps the books and manages our funds. Michelle has been a wealth of support and help; she will be a fabulous president next year. Janet has done an amazing job with the membership. Jackie is a secretary par excellence. Joy and Kris took care of the Christmas Tree decorating and undecorating. It is dangerous to recognize individuals; I have not mentioned everyone – I am taking up more than my share of space. But, all I can say is thank you et merci to everyone on the board and to all of our hostesses who have opened their homes to us. This is a fantastic club with fantastic members.

I thank you for the opportunity to have served as your president and wish you all an enjoyable and safe summer.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Our year comes to the end as we take a break from our monthly meetings for the summer. I hope that you have all enjoyed being part of this great club as much as I have.

It is now time to renew your membership in the Canadian Women's Club for the 2008-09 year. Enclosed with this newsletter are two registration forms. We are doing things a little differently this year and you will find a second page for Canadian Club membership. The Canadian Club has invited us to become members of their club for half their regular membership fee. If you would like to take advantage of this offer please fill out the second form and return it along with a separate cheque payable to the Canadian Club of Chicago. We will pass them on. If you do not want to join the Canadian Club there is no need to return the form. Do please send the CWC membership form and cheque as early as you can. This is very important as it makes processing the forms and getting the directory printed for the fall possible. As an incentive to renew, you will get a $5.00 discount if you renew before Sept 1, 2008.

Note that there as been a change to our forms too. As you probably are aware we now have a great looking website thanks to Paula Buns' husband who has put in many hours of work on our behalf. Please think about whether you would want to have your names and/or photos posted on the site. If this makes you uncomfortable please sign the appropriate section of the form. Your photos & /or names will then not appear.

In order to be included in the directory, I must receive the completed membership form and cheque by Sept 17^th.

EVENT CALENDAR NOW ON CWC WEBSITE

Can’t remember when the next CWC Meeting is? Wondering if Gordon Lightfoot might be having a Chicago area concert this year?

We recently added a feature called “Calendar” to the CWC website. Check it out! The intent was to have CWC events listed as well as other general area events with a Canadian theme. Click on an event on the calendar and a little box appears with details on the event. If you’d like anything added to the calendar, or if you become aware of any Canadian events in the area that aren’t already on the calendar, send me an email!

Also, don’t forget to email any CWC photos you may have on your computer to our photo mailbox: cwcchicago@gmail.com We’re getting ready to add a photo page in the next few months.

NEWSLETTER DEADLINE

As my two year term as the newsletter editor comes to an end, I would like to thank everyone who helped me. There were too many to name individually ,but thank you all! I learned a lot and truly enjoyed it.

The deadline for submitting articles to be included in the September newsletter is August 20,2008. All articles should be submitted to Jan Dengis.

2008-09 CWC BOARD ELECTIONS

At our June luncheon, elections will be held for the Board that will lead us into the upcoming year. All members in good standing are eligible to vote. The proposed Board is as follows:

Before the election, all members should be aware of the following sections from the Constitution and Bylaws of the Canadian Women’s Club of Chicago:

Article VII – Nominations

Section C.   Nominations may also be submitted by a petition signed by 3 active members and sent to the Chair at least one week before the annual election.

Section D.   Nominations may be made from the floor at the annual meeting, provided consent from the candidate has been obtained.

Section F.   Officers shall be elected at the annual meeting in June. A majority of members present who vote shall constitute an election.

JOIN US THIS SUMMER FOR AN EVENING AT RAVINIA

Once again this summer, we are organizing an evening of fun and music on the lawns of Ravinia. The date and performance have not been finalized yet. There will be tables set up with flags and decorations, so you’ll be sure to find us. Everyone brings their own food and beverages, and you can bring lawn chairs or rent them there.
